⠀
FALL POND SHUT-DOWN – WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW?
When we have a small or shallow pond, it may freeze to the bottom in winter. Plastic ponds can be also damaged, because swelling ice leads to the perforation of the foil. It is worth draining the water completely from a small pond for the winter. This will protect from its destruction. Okay, but where to start?
⠀
Firstly, get a pond netting which won’t let falling leaves to rot on the bottom of the reservoir. Secondly, you need to disconnect all water facilities, including filters or pond waterfall (check out why it is worth building waterfall pond).
⠀
Next, pump out the water. If you have fish inside it, we wrote about autumn fishpond maintenance here. All filters, media and pump need to be cleaned. To winterize plants, cut off the dead parts including leaves just about the soil. Remember to remove excess debris and install the aeration kit.
